Optional analytics and advertising tracking stay off until you agree. You can reject both and still browse, contact me or subscribe to the newsletter. Change your choice using at any time.

Remembering your choice

After you choose, this website saves ds-privacy-v2 in your browser’s local storage for 180 days. It contains your separate analytics and advertising choices, the notice version and the time it was saved. It is necessary to remember your privacy preference; it is not an advertising identifier. If storage is blocked, your choice applies to the current page and you may be asked again.

Visitor analytics: your choice

If you accept analytics, Vercel Web Analytics measures page visits, referrers, approximate country, device and browser information, plus requests to join the newsletter and visits to the contact page. This helps me understand which content is useful. A signup request is not counted as a confirmed subscriber, and opening the contact page is not counted as an enquiry received.

The analytics script is not loaded before consent. We strip query parameters and URL fragments from the page URL before sending analytics, and do not put email addresses, names or message contents in custom events. Vercel says its Web Analytics uses no analytics cookies and creates a visitor hash that expires after 24 hours. See Vercel’s analytics privacy information. Reports on the current plan can show up to 12 months of history.

Rejecting or withdrawing consent blocks new analytics events. Withdrawing reloads the page to remove the analytics code. It does not erase earlier reports. Clearing site data also clears your remembered preference.

LinkedIn advertising: a separate choice

If you accept LinkedIn advertising, the Insight Tag sends visits on selected public content pages to LinkedIn through Elevated Seller’s advertising account. This helps build audiences for consulting and Elevated Seller advertising and measure ad performance. LinkedIn can match visits with LinkedIn members; I receive aggregate reports, not a list of named visitors.

The tag receives the page URL, referrer, IP address, browser/device information and visit time. It is excluded from contact, newsletter, worksheet signup, privacy and confirmation pages, and URLs with query parameters or fragments. We do not send email addresses or enquiry contents to LinkedIn or enable email matching in the website code.

LinkedIn may use first-party identifiers such as li_fat_id (30 days) and a LinkedIn Ads ID in browser storage, plus LinkedIn-domain cookies including li_sugr (90 days), bcookie (one year) and lidc (24 hours). Cookie use depends on your browser and LinkedIn settings. See LinkedIn’s current cookie and expiry table for the full list.

According to LinkedIn’s Insight Tag guidance, direct member identifiers are removed within seven days and remaining pseudonymous data within 180 days. This does not mean every browser cookie has the same lifetime.

Withdrawing advertising consent reloads this page without the tag and removes the known first-party identifiers we can control. We cannot remove cookies on LinkedIn’s domain or undo previously received data. You can clear them through your browser and manage advertising choices in your LinkedIn account. You can withdraw advertising while keeping analytics, or vice versa.

No Google or Meta advertising tag or server-side advertising conversion feed is active. The LinkedIn tag is not loaded before advertising consent, and rejecting it does not prevent newsletter signup or access to the website.

Newsletter signup

The form is displayed by this website. Kit is contacted when you choose to submit your email address, not when you simply view the form. The enhanced form sends your email address to Kit without sending browser cookies, a visitor identifier or the page’s query parameters. Kit also receives normal connection information, including your IP address, when you submit.

If JavaScript is disabled, submitting uses Kit’s hosted response page. Following a confirmation link also takes you through Kit. Those pages are covered by Kit’s privacy notice. Newsletter emails may record opens and link clicks; see our newsletter privacy information. Website cookie choices and newsletter subscription choices are separate.

Older browser storage

An earlier version used Kit’s embedded form script. It could store ckid (a visitor identifier) and cksubscribed-… (a form subscription timestamp) in this website’s local storage without a fixed expiry. The current version removes the known entries belonging to our four forms and no longer uses them. If your browser blocks access to storage, you can remove them using your browser’s site-data controls. Clearing browser storage does not unsubscribe you.

Hosting and security

Vercel receives technical request information to deliver pages and protect the service. Server logs are different from browser cookies. If the hosting provider presents an exceptional security challenge, it may process additional information needed to protect that request. See Vercel’s privacy notice.
