Who is responsible
Alex Dawson-Stanley, based in Ireland, is the controller responsible for personal information collected for dawsonstanley.com, a personal consulting, speaking and writing website. Contact alex@dawsonstanley.com about this notice or to exercise your rights.
Enquiries and working together
The current contact form prepares a draft in your email app. It does not submit or store your message on this website. If you send it, I receive your name, email address, enquiry topic, message and any information you choose to include. I use these to answer your question and discuss the work you have asked about.
The legal basis is my legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries and managing professional relationships, or taking steps at your request before entering a contract where that applies. An enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in an initial message. Providing contact details is voluntary, but I need a way to reply.
Newsletter and free worksheets
Signing up requests A Clearer Next Step, my newsletter on Amazon, ecommerce and practical AI, with resources and occasional information about working with me. Kit processes your email address, the form you used, signup and confirmation records, subscription status and delivery activity on my behalf. Kit receives your IP address when you submit. The legal basis for newsletter marketing is your consent.
The signup form explains this before you submit. Confirm your email using the link Kit sends before joining the newsletter. You can also download the worksheets without subscribing, using the separate link beside each resource signup.
Kit may record email opens and link clicks using tracking images and links to provide engagement reports. These are separate from website browsing; removing the website’s embedded script does not disable email tracking. Contact me if you want information about, or object to, this processing. You can read the articles on this website or via RSS without newsletter email tracking.
Withdraw newsletter consent at any time through an email’s unsubscribe link or by contacting me. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before it. Your information is not sold, and newsletter consent does not authorise advertising audiences or sharing your details with other creators for their marketing.
Website delivery and security
Vercel hosts the site and processes technical request information, such as IP addresses, requested pages and browser information, to deliver and protect it. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in maintaining a reliable, secure website. This version does not load website analytics, advertising pixels or third-party newsletter scripts. See Cookies and tracking for browser storage details.
Sanity supplies published articles and website copy when the site is built. Your newsletter email and enquiry are not sent to Sanity by this website. External websites and services you choose to open have their own privacy notices.
Service providers and international transfers
Relevant providers include Vercel for hosting and security, Kit for newsletters, and Google for handling email sent to my business inbox. They may process information outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States.
Kit describes its transfer arrangements, including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable, in its GDPR information and Data Processing Addendum. Vercel sets out its processing and transfer terms in its Data Processing Addendum. Google describes its arrangements in its data transfer frameworks information. Contact me to request information about the safeguards relevant to your data or a copy where applicable.
How long information is kept
- Enquiries: while the discussion is active. Closed enquiries that do not lead to work are reviewed after 12 months and removed unless there is a specific ongoing need, such as an unresolved dispute.
- Client correspondence: while needed to deliver the work and afterwards where required for legal obligations or establishing, exercising or defending legal claims. The relevant record type and legal obligation determine the period.
- Newsletter records: while you remain subscribed. After withdrawal, a limited suppression and consent record may be retained to honour your choice and demonstrate how consent was obtained. Unnecessary profile information is reviewed for removal.
- Technical logs and backups: kept according to the provider’s security, recovery and retention arrangements. These periods vary by service and record type; contact me for details relevant to a particular request.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your information. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and to direct marketing, and withdraw consent where it is used. Email alex@dawsonstanley.com with your request.
I normally respond within one month. If a request is complex and a lawful extension is needed, I will explain within that first month. I may ask for proportionate information to confirm your identity. Requests are normally free of charge.
You may complain to Ireland’s Data Protection Commission or your local supervisory authority. You do not need to contact me first.
I do not use this website to make solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. This notice will be updated when the website’s processing changes.
